A summer in Italy

The 11mm – International Football Film Festival will open this year with the documentary A Summer in Italy – World Cup 1990. The film looks back at the legendary tournament of the summer of 1990, when Germany, led by Franz Beckenbauer, won the World Cup in Italy. With players such as Lothar Matthäus and Andreas Brehme, a team came together that united an entire country during a time of historic change. Told from the perspective of those involved and enriched with previously unseen footage from private archives, from Sepp Maier, and from sources within FIFA, the film offers a highly personal and atmospheric reflection on one of the defining moments in German football history. Directors Nadja Kölling and Vanessa Goll will be present at the opening to introduce the film. The festival is also pleased to welcome special guest Hermann Gerland, who will place the World Cup triumph in historical context and enrich the evening with personal insights from his many years working at the highest level of professional football.
