We are celebrating an anniversary: 11mm – the international soccer film festival for the twentieth time

Anniversary! The 11mm Football Film Festival is celebrating its 20th edition, and for the first time we are guests at the wonderful Colosseum Filmtheater in Prenzlauer Berg. From April 24-28, 45 feature-length and short films from 17 countries will be shown there – a cross-section of the best, most interesting and most beautiful current documentaries and feature films on the subject of football. This year’s focus series is entitled “Female footballers: Stories of Passion and Triumph”, and we are delighted to welcome director Torsten Körner and numerous players who have paved the way for the success of women’s soccer today to the cinema for the opening film Mädchen können kein football spielen, which documents the history of women’s soccer in both parts of our country in gripping detail.

Five days of a packed program, which you will find described in detail on these pages, and wonderful guests to be announced: from Ewald Lienen to Stefan Beinlich and Tony Woodcock, whose careers will be highlighted in various documentaries. And two masters of their trade are expected at the Colosseum: photographers Hans van der Meer and Stuart Clarke, whose work is magnificently reflected in the films Saturday Afternoon – Sunday Morning and German World Cup Summer Recalled.

As always, the ShortKicks Gala on Monday, April 28, will conclude the festival and it will certainly be difficult for the jury to choose the best of the six short films of this very special year – in the field of tension between the very personal soccer dreams of a Polish fan and the incredibly lively, courageous young women in northern Pakistan, who on the last evening will draw a bow to the pioneers of German women’s soccer who opened this year’s festival.

We look forward to welcoming all movie and soccer fans!

Festival programming in full swing

The 11mm programming team relies entirely on rustic manual work. More than 30 films want to find the best possible place in the festival program. Who will shine in prime time on Friday or Saturday evening? Who gets to screen more exclusively later in the night? Which films will attract audiences in the afternoon or at the Sunday matinee? Nothing works without coffee, cake and beer. From the beginning of April, you will be able to discover and marvel at the results of intensive programming work.
